Today in the northeast summer decided to remind us that it's not fall yet. 90+ degree heat with approximatly 247% humidity. Pleasant. Couple that with a looming deadline and I did what any sane woman would do. I completely redecorated my living room/office space.
I spent hour after hour moving furniture that is much bigger than I around like a giant game of Tetris. Our house is not very big and the living room is impossible to work with. I had to get creative. I had to think outside the box. I had to sweat.
What the hell was I thinking? Minutes before doing my very best Hercules impression I was laying motionless on the couch praying for it to ran so I could move the couch outside and lay motionless in the rain. That led to me looking around at the living room and thinking, "I should switch things up in here." This led to an epiphany about how to use a bookcase and my desk to create my own little workspace. All I can attribute this to is that I have two close friends who are very pregnant and due to give birth momentarily. I am nest by proxy. Yeah, that's it.
Whatever the reason, all this led to a sore, sweaty, swearing me. Smart.
Meanwhile my daughter, sensing that I was loosing my ever loving mind took refuge in her room. She laid on her bed, in a nest of pillows and watched Lilo and Stitch while eating cookies. I have taught her well. Further proof that those who can't do, teach. Someday I may take my own advice. Someday. But, in the meanwhile I have a fantastic new layout in my house.
I worked the entire afternoon and through dinner time. I managed to whip up a chicken salad sandwich and some fruit for the kiddo. Nothing says heat induced insanity than a late dinner consisting of leftovers served up on a plate intended for a picnic. My daughter was excited, she got to have an "inside picnic party!!!" and I got to finish my assault on the sofa.
It is now 10:30pm. The house looks great, the kiddo went to sleep BY HERSELF (I'll save that little mythical gem for another time), and the heat dropped by about 4 degrees. I think I am ready to meet that deadline.
Right after I eat some cookies and re-grout the tub.
